Class Types

Midday Movement Series gives emerging contemporary teachers the space to craft their movement styles and hone their teaching skills while offering advanced dancers the opportunity to commit to their artistry through affordable, consistent, rigorous training.

Midday Movement cultivates relationships with teachers at every level (novice, developing, and established) in experiences that fit their needs — in one-time or short term engagements, as dedicated faculty, or as mentored teachers offering their own classes in the community.  All MIDDAY class fees range from $5 - $15 to center financial equity and to reflect teachers' level of experience.

**NEW** MENTORED TEACHERS
Midday Movement Series is excited to offer a new relationship option for developing teachers: MIDDAY Mentored Teachers.
MIDDAY Mentored Teachers work one-on-one with MIDDAY Director Marissa Molinar to deepen their philosophies on their independent work. Each Mentored Teacher partnership is unique to the individuals involved, and all are focused on helping artists strengthen and clarify their values, missions and goals with and around dance.

Former Shuffle Teacher Victoria Awkward will be our inaugural MIDDAY Mentored Teacher beginning October 2021.

ONGOING TEACHERS
Midday Movement Series’ Ongoing Classes are weekly classes taught by one teacher for a minimum of one year. Ongoing classes are taught by teachers working toward establishing their pedagogy and integrating their teaching practice with additional professional endeavors (as choreographers/company directors, studio owners, arts administrators, community organizers, and more). Ongoing classes give teachers and dancers alike the opportunity to delve more deeply into the instructor’s movement language and to build a relationship through consistent interaction.

As of Sept 2021, MIDDAY does not currently have any ongoing teachers.

SHORT SERIES
Midday Movement’s Short Series are 3- to 8-week sessions taught by newly certified somatic teachers looking for experience teaching weekly classes, or for movement teachers with previous experience looking to create class structures for new concepts and styles.

MIDDAY will host Lonnie Stanton in her Short Series Site Soaks, planned for October 29 + 30, 2021. We are always interested in connecting with new teachers in Feldenkrais, yoga, Alexander Technique, meditation, Gyrokinesis, contemporary styles, and more. Interested in teaching? MIDDAY SHUFFLE
Midday Shuffle is a subset of Midday Movement Series that consists of one-time workshops with emerging teachers from Boston and beyond. These classes provide new teachers the chance to dip their toes into their teaching practice, and a way for guest teachers from Boston or other areas to easily connect with the local contemporary dance community. For dancers, Midday Shuffle provides the opportunity to train in a variety of innovative styles with emerging artistic voices, keeping your technique on point, your artistry fresh, and your training schedule fun!

Teaching novices interested in growing a more consistent teaching practice are invited to join the Midday Shuffle Cohort: a dedicated group of new dance teachers who rotate between teaching and taking the classes of their cohort members.
For Fall 2021, Midday Shuffle is Tuesdays 12-2pm at Cambridge Common.
Our Cohort teachers are Caitlin Canty, Sasha Peterson, Noli Rosen, and Claire Lane.
Guest Shuffle teachers will include MIDDAY Interns Ashley Eng and  Trevor Torres.
